Liberian president reviews cabinet performance

   Posted January 8, 2010

(MONROVIA, LIBERIA, Jan. 6, 2010):  Liberian Cabinet Ministers are undergoing an unprecedented Performance Review by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, aimed at measuring the output of the various Ministers.

The exercise, which commenced on Monday, is evaluating how effective Cabinet Ministers have been in implementing the “Lift Liberia” Poverty Reduction Strategy, as spelled out in targeted areas expected to be implemented over a specified period.

During each one-on-one meeting, the Cabinet Minister discusses with the President the successes, failures, and challenges he/she faces in running their respective ministries. The performance review also includes Deputy and Assistant Ministers, who are themselves evaluated by the respective Ministers.

An Executive Mansion release points out that, during their meeting with the President, the Ministers are given the opportunity to express their views candidly on the performance of the President.

The Performance Review is intended to improve the performance of Cabinet Ministers and help accelerate implementation of the country’s development agenda. It also provides guidance, as the President considers a Cabinet reshuffle with the aim of improving efficiency in Government.

The Ministers of Finance, Lands, Mines and Energy; Health and Social Welfare, and Public Works have already undergone the Performance Review, expected to conclude next week.
