Liberia Finance & Trust Credit Union is introducing a secured electronic payment system into the financial sector of the Liberian economy including the use of “SICACARD” a credit/debit card product for all commercial activities and banking/credit union products and services, according to a news release just issued by the management.

The new system will be facilitated by the Liberian Finance & Trust Credit Union (LFTCU).

With the introduction of this modern method of doing business in the 21 century, Liberia will be the second country in West Africa, first Ghana to introduce the use of the card and payment system for  payment of goods and services.

Consumers holding the SICACARD will not need to carry cash in Liberia or when traveling outside Liberia to another country where “SICACARD” services are available.  SICACARD management told this website that the card will be able to connect users directly to their checking and savings accounts.  The will be offered to all citizens of Liberia, living in the country and abroad and to help card members to grow their savings while the card.  

SICACARD provides multiple advantages and conveniences to its holders. For example, SICACARD holders do not need to carry cash either in Liberia or any other participating country in Africa, Europe, America and Asia. It is an opportunity offered to all Liberian citizens in Africa and abroad to take advantage of convenience while growing their savings. Additionally, the cardholders will eliminate money transfer fee while sending money to their families and friends.  

Management committee member, Roy Montgomery said increased competition in  Liberia's financial services is expected, adding, an advantage to the consumer to have an option, to choose from. He said this is good news for consumers because they will be exposed those multiple options. 

The release said the Liberia Finance & Trust Credit Union which has been in business for many years and survived under the civil war is proud to take the lead in the country, the introducing  (to  introduce SICACARD) of  the “SICACARD” first of its kind in Liberia, West Africa. 

The “SICACARD” like any other major credit card, with also have special futures (features) attached to the system to prevent fraud.  These distinctive features will enable the cardholders to safely do their regular transactions in the supermarkets, shopping centers, gas stations, restaurants & Bars, Hotels. The card also facilitates secure electronic bill payment, travel necessity, building/construction materials purchases, Internet Banking/ Credit Union Services, and more.

Use of the new electronic card will include supermarket Shopping, Buying of gas and other petroleum products. Retail Store Shopping, Restaurant & Bar Purchases, Hotel, Online Bill payment, Travels, Building/Construction materials purchases, Internet Banking/ Credit Union Services, and more. 

The management says “SICACARD” is also been introduced in other West African Countries to make movement of card members free from risk of carry money and to improve commerce through the use of e-commerce “Storeonlineplus” platform attach to the program.
