Sirleaf seeks professional help from Liberians living abroad

Posted April 8,  2008

The Liberian President is appealing to professionals and qualified Liberians living abroad to transform their vacations into performing voluntary services for their country.

President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf said at the moment there are some Liberian medical practitioners residing in the United States who are engaged in lending their services to Liberia in the area of surgical practices and clinical care.

President Sirleaf made the appeal at the Liberian Embassy in London when she addressed a cross section of Liberians residing in the United Kingdom.

President Sirleaf is visiting Britain as part of an invitation from the British Government to attend the Progressive Governance Leaders Summit in London.

President Sirleaf informed her audience that spearheading this effort is her eldest son who is a medical doctor in the United States. She said her eldest son, who she did not name, is involved in medical services in clinics and hospitals around the country.

She called on qualified Liberians residing in Britain and Europe to emulate the example of their brother from the US. She said professionals from all faculties and experiences are welcomed, adding, “it would be nice to have professionals from Britain and Europe involved in voluntary services to the brothers and sister at home”.
