President Sirleaf to appear on Oprah show
Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is expected to
appear as a guest of the popular Oprah Winfrey show in the United States of
America.
Executive Mansion Press Secretary Cyrus Badio speaking
to Running Africa in a telephone interview said President Sirleaf will
arrive in the Chicago area in the United States on May 7th for
the taping of the show which will be aired on May 20th.
The president who is Africa’s first elected female
president will be sharing the Oprah Winfrey stage with another top world
female personality, Queen Noor of Jordan.
The May 20th Oprah Winfrey Show will be
highlighting the achievements of women on the world stage, especially the
election of Mrs. Sirleaf, the Harvard-trained economist, former World Bank
employee and former United Nations Assistant Secretary General as the first
female president on the male dominated African continent.
The recognition of Mrs. Sirleaf for this role is a
further manifestation of the direction she is taking Liberia, a country that
is emerging from a devastated civil war.
Mrs. Sirleaf’s trip according to Mr. Badio, is being
fully sponsored by Ms. Winfrey’s company, Chicago-based Harpo Production.
The company currently has a team of TV producers in the country covering the
president’s activities in preparation for her appearance on the show.
