Liberian president signs new laws

Posted May 23,  2008

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has signed into law three legislations recently approved by the National Legislature of Liberia. The legislations include an Act ratifying the concession agreement between Liberia and Libinc Oil Palm Inc., and an Act ratifying the agreement between Liberia and the Liberia Forest Products Inc. The President also signed into law an act to establish within the Ministry of Public Works a department to be known as the Department of Rural Development and Community Services.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the President performed the signing ceremony Thursday when Senator Gloria Scott and Representative Kettehkumehn Murray presented the legislations to her at the Foreign Ministry in Monrovia. Also witnessing the presentation ceremony were Grand Bassa County Senator Gbezongar Findley and Bomi County Representative Haja Fata Sayon, members of Senate and House Standing Committees on the Executive, respectively.

The President thanked the lawmakers for ratifying the legislations which, she noted, are in line with Government's efforts to create more jobs, aimed
