In middle of inauguration plans: Liberian group in Texas replaces VP

   Posted September 21,  2009

The members of the Liberian Community Association of Dallas Fort Worth (LCA-DFW) are planning the programs for the inauguration of its newly elected officers headed by Mrs. Lorena Diggs-Travell.

The program will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 in Arlington, Texas. It coincides with the third quarterly meeting of the umbrella organization, the Conference of Liberian Organizations in the Southwestern United States (COLOSUS), which is scheduled to be held in Dallas.

During one of its meetings on Saturday, September 19, 2009 held at the New Life Fellowship Church in Euless, the body was presented with a budget of 2-thousand two hundred dollars for the occasion.

The organization’s leadership said it does not have money to host the inauguration and ball, but was now raising funds from dues, cook outs, taxation of its officials and voluntary contributions from the general membership.

Meanwhile, the general membership voted overwhelmingly at Saturday night’s meeting in favor of a vote of no confidence against the Vice President of the Association Mr. Mohammed S. Kamara. Mr. Kamara who was not present at the meeting, was then voted out of office. Mr. Boimah Weedor was elected as the new Vice President. He defeated Robertetta Burroughs 11-7.

Mr. Weedor has promised to serve his community and called on people in the community to respect each other.

In separate remarks made on the floor, some of the members said, the action to replace Mr. Kamara as Vice President was necessary so as to move on with the business of the people. Mr. Kamara who was elected along with Mrs. Travell, is accused of failing to attend meetings and participate in activities of the new LCA-DFW leadership.

In e-mail exchanges between Mrs. Travell and Mr. Kamara which were read out loud at the meeting, Mrs. Travell said that since their elections, Mr. Kamara had failed to come to meetings, and was not answering her calls.

Mr. Kamara countered that he had previously informed the president that until certain issues were taken care of reference to a smooth transition of power from the administration of James Coleman and the breaking of ties with the umbrella organization, COLOSUS he would not be coming to meetings.

He accused current COLOSUS’ Secretary General Willie Kamara and former Secretary General Mariah Chibli of running the organizations from their purse and brief case. He told Mrs. Travell that if she is unable to break the ties, she should leave it with him to do it, because he is known for rendering meaningless organizations meaningless.

At an earlier meeting, the administration set up a small committee to meet with and encourage Mr. Kamara to come to meetings. While the proceedings to remove him from office were in progress, Mr. Kamara was on the phone with one of the members of the committee T-Mac Davies, explaining his side of the issue.

Mr. Davies had earlier told the gathering that he had spoken to Mr. Kamara who told him that he had a busy schedule, but they would talk sometime around 6: o’clock that evening, but it was now long past that time.

When contacted by Running Africa via e-mail for his reaction to the decision of the community to remove him as the association’s Vice President, Mr. Kamara said as far as he was concerned he was never serving in the capacity as Vice President of the LCA-DFW. “I have always been the dedicated webmaster of LCA/DFW & Diaspora., and have enjoyed serving the community in this area”. He said he did not have any further comments on the matter as he is busy serving the community/African communities, and have no time for what he calls cheap politics.

Mr. Kamara said he will be checking this website for the weeks to come, and if he found anything there about him he will have no alternative, but to sharply react, in the best and appropriate way, on all websites at his disposal.
